Incredible Scenery

Riding the trails of Jackson and Clark counties, you’ll enjoy some of the Midwest’s most beautiful scenery. Trails wind their way around beautiful rock outcroppings, through pristine meadows, over clear running trout creeks and underneath thick canopies of pine. You’ll get a real feeling of being in the wilderness and some amazing views—be sure to bring a camera.

The Black River

The wild, rocky and largely undeveloped Black River winds its way through Clark County and into Jackson County. The Black River is one of the most scenic rivers in Wisconsin, with excellent populations of walleye, bass and muskellunge. For much of its route, the riverbanks are covered in granite rock formations and towering white pine forests. The rocky shores and winding route have made the river popular with both canoeists and kayakers.

Lake Arbutus

This 821-acre lake provides opportunities for fishing, boating and other watersports. Lake Arbutus is located just north of Hatfield, on the border of Jackson and Clark counties. The lake supports good populations of musky, northern pike, bass, walleye and panfish and is a great place to relax on a hot summer day. In the winter, Lake Arbutus is a favorite ice fishing destination.

Wazee Lake

At first sight, this small lake appears to be just a beautiful body of quiet water, perfect for swimming, boating and angling. This 146-acre lake is all that, but has an amazing secret lurking beneath its quiet surface—it’s actually the deepest lake in Wisconsin. At a whopping 355 feet, Wazee Lake is a favorite destination for scuba divers from throughout the Midwest. Its crystal clear waters and interesting structure are perfect for diving. In warm weather, the beautiful lake is also a great place to take a dip after a long day on the trails.
